turn your head and cough...

350 q-tips later and i have one clean carb, with new jets.  In anticipation of pod filters and straight pipes, i swapped out the 78/115 factory jets for 87.5/130...i guess we'll see whether that works out or not.  I haven't done much work on the bike proper, other than removing everything but the engine. Next i want to
drain the fluids, pull the radiator and drop the engine and get to work cleaning. I did order some new shocks last week, and they're at the post office waiting to be picked up...i'm excited to see how they're going to work out, but talking to a friend who knows the shocks, i think i'll have to machine another part out of steel to replace a fairly crucial stock aluminum piece, but whatever, i got a good deal on the shocks, and i'll post more about them later once i've fitted them on the bike.  I haven't been working on the bike because its been EFFING COLD and the shop doesn't have any heat, so i brought the carbs home with me and i've been working on them in my studio, all my spray cans and art supplies pushed into the floor.  It's probably not a great idea sitting in there with an open can of carb cleaner next to me, but so far i haven't passed out from the fumes and i've been a whole lot happier of late.  So, one carb clean, one to go.  The next one shouldn't be too bad as it doesn't have all the springs and pulleys attached to it.  Man, i really hope i got all those springs back in the right place...there is one spring left over that i'm really not sure about where it goes...but i know its an outside spring so i'm not too worried about it right now.  Oh, I also tried a little polishing of the top of the carb, you can kinda see it in the picture, but i only got a little bit done because i was using a dremel tool...dremel tools are awesome for anything on a micro scale.  I need a bench grinder.
